Committees - Tools
Pneumatic tools for specific
solutions is the key to PNEUROP members activities where a balance has
to be struck between the needs of the user and the demands of
legislation The PNEUROP Pneumatic Tools sector has since its inception
in 1959 provided not only the pneumatic tools industry but also the user
with standardised specifications which have identified common terms,
noise measuring codes, vibration measuring methods, safe use
information, dust emission measurement methods and many other
specifications.
The simple aim in the beginning was
to "To prepare recommendations for pneumatic tools". The task
now is to address worker related challenges brought about by increased
legislation.
The ambition is to promote the use
of members’ technical knowledge and experience by preparing Pneurop
recommendations and contributing to European and International
standards, so that they may be practical and appropriate to not only our
industry but also to our customers.
Standards
The PNEUROP Pneumatic Tools sector
has been the prime support for the formation in 1965 of the
International Standards committee ISO TC118 "Compressor, Pneumatic
tools, machines and associated equipment". This technical committee
used many of the PNEUROP specifications as the basis for later
International Standards.
When the call came to industry in
the late 1980's to formulate standards for use in compliance with
European Legislation the PNEUROP Pneumatic Tools sector was instrumental
in setting up the European Standards committee CEN TC255.
Legislation
The Pneumatic Tools sector responded
by providing participants in the formulation of European legislation for
industry. Machines Directive, Constructions Site Noise Directive,
Outdoor Noise Directive, Physical Agents Noise) Directive and the
Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive to name but a few are all which
have had the attention and participation of PNEUROP members.
Future
Worker protection the environment
and ever changing work practices challenge the pneumatic tool
manufacturer to provide a 'better solution' and PNEUROP members are
addressing these issues. Although vibration and noise are not new issues
the imposition of regulatory requirements focus the minds of PNEUROP
members to respond with the ever important aspect of applying ergonomic
solutions to the challenge of meeting the customers needs.
The world arena is ever more
important and the PNEUROP Pneumatic Tools link is maintained by close
association with the Compressed Air and Gas Institute in the United
States. That link helps to ensure the global nature of standardisation,
which helps to minimise costs to not only PNEUROP members but also to
their customers by having one international standard with which to
comply on specific aspects and performance of their products.
Lower noise and vibration from
pneumatic tools protects the worker but achieving these goals is not
always consistent with providing an adequate performance. PNEUROP
Pneumatic tools manufacturers bring their experiences and solutions to a
common discussion point in the Pneumatic Tools sector for the benefit of
all.
