Committees - Compressors
The
way in which compressors are seen in the marketplace has moved from a
discussion on the technology to a discussion of a user's solution. The
PNEUROP Compressor sector has since its inception in 1959 provided not
only the compressor industry but also the user with standardised
specifications which have identified common terms, noise measuring
codes, safety information as well as the all important means to identify
the performance of a compressor.
The simple aim in the beginning was to "Prepare recommendations for
displacement compressors and related equipment". The task now
although still technically based is more focussed on promoting progress
as identified in the new goal;
To
promote the evolution of technological progress
in the compressed air field
Standards
The PNEUROP Compressor sector has been the prime support for the
formation in 1965 of the International Standards committee ISO TC118
"Compressor, Pneumatic tools, machines and associated
equipment". This technical committee used many of the PNEUROP
specifications as the basis for later International Standards.
When the call came to industry in the late 1980's to formulate standards
for use in compliance with European Legislation the PNEUROP Compressor
sector was instrumental in setting up the European Standards committee
CEN TC232.
Legislation
Again the Compressor sector responded by providing participants in the
formulation of European legislation for industry. The Simple Pressure
Vessels Directive, Machines Directive, Constructions Site Noise
Directive, Outdoor Noise Directive and the Pressure Equipment Directive
to name but a few are all of which have had the attention and
participation of PNEUROP members.
Future
Energy efficiency, energy management, the environment are all now being
addressed. The formulation of a common performance specification for the
new breed of variable speed technology is now to the fore. The means of
addressing many environmentally driven issues also exercises the PNEUROP
'mind'. Some issues relate to improving the efficiency of the compressor
system and others on the enhancing of the design of compressor systems.
These are promoted by the industry to provide ever more environmentally
efficient solutions for our customers.
The world arena is ever more important and the PNEUROP Compressor link
is maintained by close association with the Compressed Air and Gas
Institute. That link helps to ensure the global nature of
standardisation, which helps to minimise costs to not only PNEUROP
members but also to their customers by having one international standard
with which to comply on specific aspects and performance of their
products.
